Putters group. We believe you can't start golfers too early. The Putters Group is for six year olds and under. This group gets putting lessons on the practice green for about 15 to 20 minutes. There they practice basics like grip, aim, stance and judging distance. Encouragement and enthusiasm is the theme of these sessions that are usually held while older brothers and sisters are on the course. We strive to make this age group feel included and part of the fun and excitement of the great game.
The 3 holers. This is our basic group and usually consists of seven and eight year olds. The requirement to join this group is the ability to walk and carry their own clubs, from the 100-yard marker, for 3 holes. Before starting on the course, they receive basic instruction on the fundamentals of golf each week on the practice range.
The 6 holers. This group plays 6 holes from the 150-yard markers. They also walk and carry their own bags. Along with basic fundamentals taught each week, the rules and etiquette of the game are introduced. Most of the players in this group are between nine and eleven. A series of weekly events starts exposing these young players to competition.
The 9 holers. This group plays 9 holes from the Men's White or Women's Red tee markers. Now weekly instruction includes all aspects of the rules and etiquette of the game, along with specialized drills and specific practice routines. These golfers are usually in their middle teens though younger, eager players are not unknown here. They will be preparing to participate on their school teams, in Junior competition and have a mature understanding of how the game of golf is played.
The 18 holers. This group consists of golfers who know the game and who are still taking weekly lessons. These players should maintain GAM handicaps and will play in competition or at their high schools with hopes of playing at college. These golfers reflect Lochmoor Club's commitment to their program and should be well on their way to enjoying the game for the rest of their lives.
Note: This program stresses weekly instruction and weekly competition with constant encouragement and parental involvement. All Juniors are required to have adult supervision until they become certified 9 or 18 holers. Junior Big Day or Family Day is held every season and always includes Mom and Dad. There is a Junior Club Championship for each division with the exception of the Putters group. There is also a Junior Guest Day when players have a chance to compete for prizes teamed with a friend. Inter-club matches with other clubs in the area will be arranged during the season. Each Junior receives a matching Lochmoor Club shirt to be worn on Junior Golf Day. This custom underlines the unity and organization of the club. Prizes will be awarded to all who participate in our Junior Golf program, no matter what their golfing ability. |
